Bell Attendant

Bell Attendant job overview

A bell attendant or bell person is responsible for serving and assisting hotel guests and contributes to their overall satisfaction. They're responsible for meeting and greeting guests upon arrival and departure, assisting guests with their luggage, escorting guests to their rooms, supporting the hotel front desk staff, and performing other guest services as needed. Additional tasks include delivering room service, picking up dry cleaning, checking bags for storage, and transporting guests to and from the airport or train station. A bell attendant is typically an entry-level role and usually works part-time or full-time at hotel facilities.

Bell Attendant responsibilities
  • Greet guests when they arrive and leave the hotel
  • Assist with guest luggage and carry items to their room in a safe and professional manner
  • Support the front desk staff and bell captain with check-in and responding to guest requests
  • Keep the bell desk neat and tidy at all times
  • Perform other hotel services as assigned and respond to guest requests as necessary, such as delivering mail and food to guest’s rooms, taking laundry service, making sure public areas are clean, and checking the guest’s luggage for storage
Bell Attendant qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent such as a GED is required
  • At least 1 year of previous experience in hospitality as a bell attendant, concierge, or similar customer service position
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and lift over 25 pounds
  • Flexible work schedule with availability to work on weekends and holidays
  • Excellent communication skills and customer service skills
