The Host/Hostess role is responsible for greeting guests upon arrival and acknowledging them when they leave. This role is crucial for making an impression on customers as the first point of contact. Outstanding communication/customer service skills, organization, and basic math skills are required to successfully fill the role. A friendly and pleasant attitude is essential to answering customer phone inquiries, as well as troubleshooting effectively, and keen observation of the ebb and flow of the restaurant is necessary to ensure accurate reservations are made and guest seating is seamless. The role will typically report to the shift manager or restaurant owner. They may also be required to assist other staff members with additional duties as needed. A high school diploma or equivalent GED, and good command of the English language are required. Prior food service, restaurant, or hotel experience is preferred.

We’re looking to hire an energetic and outgoing host/hostess with outstanding customer service skills. You’ll need excellent communication skills to answer phone inquiries and make reservations. Your main duties include welcoming guests and guiding them to a table that has been cleared and cleaned. You’ll ensure that there are enough seats for the entire party and check that each guest has tableware. Your attire should be professional and neat, with comfortable shoes to stand on your feet frequently throughout your shift. Host/Hostess responsibilities
  • Greet guests warmly as they enter to create a positive first impression of the restaurant
  • Lead all guests to their seats, ensuring they all have a place to sit, proper glass and tableware, filled water glasses, and menus
  • Handle booking of reservations, be quick to solve seating problems, and troubleshoot any phone inquiries from customers
  • Help clear and wipe down tables and set up tables with utensils and glassware for the next party
  • Know the menu items and how dishes are prepared and be able to answer any questions about daily specials
  • Check the dining room constantly for cleanliness and organization and restock condiments on the table as necessary
Host/Hostess qualifications
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent GED and should speak English well
  • Must have excellent communication, customer service, and organization skills, as well as the ability to deal with customer requests in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner
  • Must be able to handle a fast-paced atmosphere with periods of standing on feet for an extended length of time
  • Some restaurant, hospitality, and/or food services industry experience is preferred
