Pool Maintenance Technician

Pool Maintenance Technician job overview

Pool maintenance technicians specialize in installing, servicing, and repairing swimming pool equipment. They are also responsible for visiting a client's pool facilities to perform routine preventative maintenance tasks, including testing the water chemistry to ensure there's an appropriate balance of chlorine and pH levels, cleaning out the filtration system, and inspecting pool equipment and structure to keep it in working condition. Swimming pool techs advise clients on any repair work or water quality issues they identify. They typically work full-time and use a company vehicle to visit clients.

Pool Maintenance Technician responsibilities
  • Test pH levels for water quality and add or maintain chemicals levels
  • Troubleshoot, repair, or replace faulty equipment
  • Identify and fix cracks or leaks in the pool area structure, pipes, or plumbing
  • Replace underwater light fixtures
  • Clean swimming pools and filtration using certified pool equipment
  • Advise customers on best preventative maintenance practices
  • Complete paperwork and services performed
Pool Maintenance Technician qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Previous experience as a pool technician and understanding of common pool maintenance techniques, chemicals, and equipment
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability to lift heavy equipments and dexterity are required
  • Must be able to work in harsh weather conditions
