Arborist

Arborist job overview

Arborists specialize in planting, maintaining, and removing trees and other woody plants. They use aerial lifts, hand, and power tools to perform tree maintenance, check tree and soil conditions, and remove unwanted or diseased trees. Responsibilities include watering, aerating, fertilizing, climbing, cabling, and staking existing trees, as well as planting and transplanting new trees when needed. They are also responsible for identifying and treating trees with diseases and pests. Arborists are proficient in tree and soil biology, anatomy, and composition. They typically work full time, often at dangerous heights and in bad weather conditions.

Our team is growing, and we’re looking for our next experienced arborist to consult our clients on their landscaping needs. You’ll be responsible for trimming, pruning, removing, treating, and planting trees. You have proven field experience in arboriculture and are comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions. Arborist responsibilities
  • Visit with clients to understand their landscaping needs
  • Assess the soil conditions and space requirements for new trees or woody plants
  • Install and brace new trees to help them grow
  • Identify and treat diseased trees
  • Use handsaws, chainsaws, tree trimmers, and pruners for tree maintenance
  • Remove trees and other plants
  • Apply pesticides when necessary
Arborist qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) arborist certification is preferred, but not required
  • Field experience or bachelor’s degree in in environmental science or related field is required
  • Knowledge of tree and soil anatomy and biology is required
  • Physically able to climb trees, lift heavy objects, and comfortable working on aerial lifts at high heights is required
  • Strong communication skills are required
