Electrician

Electrician job overview

Electricians specialize in troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, installing, and modifying various electrical and control systems for construction sites, plants, office buildings, and homes. Duties may include identifying electrical problems, performing preventative maintenance, and reading schematics or technical blueprints to complete jobs. They must follow all local and national electrical codes, safety codes, and safety procedures to install and repair complex electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems. Electricians typically work full time, with some overtime in peak periods. This is an entry-level position for licensed electricians that have already completed an apprenticeship.

Electrician job summary

We are looking for a safety-first, analytical, and experienced electrician to join our team. You’ll be assigned a variety of work orders, including fixing, replacing, installing, and maintaining, and testing electrical wiring, circuit breakers, transformers, and lighting fixtures in buildings. The ideal candidate is familiar with reading technical schematics and blueprints, has extensive knowledge of electrical systems and wiring, and has completed all training, apprenticeship, and licensing requirements. Electrician responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and installation of electrical equipment in homes, businesses, and factories
  • Diagnose and repair electrical problems, including component installation and replacement
  • Install wiring and other electrical components, and test to ensure it’s properly connected
  • Ensure that the wiring meets all building codes and standards for safety
  • Read and apply electrical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and wiring diagrams
  • Test newly installed electrical components to ensure proper function
Electrician qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s degree from an electrician program at a technical school is required
  • Completed electrician apprenticeship
  • Valid electrician license is required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Willing to work in confined spaces, at great heights, and in all types of weather conditions
  • Strong communication skills, including tact and courtesy in dealing with others
