Real Estate Attorney responsibilities
  • Consider all legal aspects of clients’ circumstances and desired outcome to provide sound legal advice to them
  • Conduct detailed due diligence, and inspect title examination, closing binder, and legal documents for legal risk, completion, and accuracy
  • Draft and review contracts, probate and trust documents, leases, financing statements, purchase and property management agreements, as well as title abstracts, summaries, and commitments, as required
  • Negotiate real estate transaction terms and conditions, and facilitate the transfer of title between borrowers, real estate agents, and title company
  • Represent client at real estate closings, in real estate disputes, and real estate litigation
  • Interface with city boards and agencies to avoid zoning legal issues and obtain permits
  • Manage paralegals, clerks, and other assistants
Real Estate Attorney qualifications
  • Completion of accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree is required
  • Hold a current law license in the state and be a member of your local bar association
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a residential or commercial real estate attorney, as a transactional attorney, or as corporate counsel for a real estate development firm
  • Working knowledge of title insurance, land use, business law, property management, and residential and commercial real estate law, including litigation
  • Computer proficiency is needed
  • Exceptional negotiation, research, networking, and communication skills are desired
