An occupational therapy aide supports occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. Their job duties include responding to patient inquiries and scheduling appointments, prepping treatment areas and equipment, transporting patients, sterilizing rooms and equipment, completing and filing client paperwork, and monitoring inventory levels to keep supplies well-stocked. Additional job duties include supporting occupational therapists during appointments as they complete therapeutic activities with clients and educate them on assigned assistive devices and special equipment. Occupational therapy aides may work full-time or part-time in hospitals, therapy offices, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, skilled nursing care facilities, schools, or home health organizations.

Occupational Therapy Aide job summary

We’re hiring an empathetic occupational therapy aide to help us implement life-changing treatment programs. You’ll support our team of occupational therapists and their assistants, by handling patient requests for appointments, preparing treatment rooms and therapy equipment, and documenting each therapy session. This role is perfect for someone who loves to help patients and has excellent interpersonal skills since you will be the first person patients interact with. Ideally, our candidate has a good grasp of basic medical terminology and trained in Basic Life Support or CPR certification. However, no COTA or NBCOT licensure or previous experience is needed for this role; we will provide job training under an occupational therapist’s supervision for the right candidate. Occupational Therapy Aide responsibilities
  • Answer phones and emails and help patients schedule appointments so they can properly follow their treatment plan
  • Prepare treatment rooms and therapy equipment so patients can be transported and receive quick and satisfactory occupational therapy services
  • Monitor inventory levels of our medical supplies and reorder items as needed so that we can provide the best possible patient care
  • Sterilize medical equipment and treatment areas after each appointment to follow proper infection control procedures and ensure a safe environment for our patients
  • Document and file client information for therapy sessions and fill out all health insurance forms and company-required paperwork in a timely manner to ensure we are in complete compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Support occupational therapists and staff as they complete physical therapy activities with patients to improve motor skills, balance, range of motion, or other physical capabilities
  • Help occupational therapists provide patients the appropriate assistive devices and adapt devices to support the patient’s comfort, such as, fabricated splints, wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, canes, or other special equipment
Occupational Therapy Aide qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required - Associate’s degree is a bonus
  • 1 year of work experience as an occupational therapy aide, rehab aide, physical therapy aide, or similar position is desired, but not required
  • Basic Life Support training and CPR certification is preferred
  • Good physical stamina to stand for long periods of time and to kneel and crouch when necessary
  • Great listening, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills to complete administrative tasks and record patient data
