Certified Medical Assistant responsibilities
Greet patients, handle telephone calls, schedule appointments, and answer inquiries regarding treatment or prescription refills to make sure each patient has a great experience in our office
Prepare exam rooms for patients ensuring the room is well-stocked and at a comfortable temperature for the patient and sterilize equipment
Discuss patient information, medical history, and the reason for their visit to share with the healthcare staff
Take the patient’s vital signs including their pulse, body temperature, respiration rate, and blood pressure and record it in their chart
Assist healthcare staff with examinations by handing the appropriate medical instrument and supplies to the physician, positioning the patient, and helping with other tasks as needed
Draw blood and prepare blood samples for laboratory tests
Fill out the appropriate insurance forms and document patient appointments, listing all symptoms, test results, diagnoses, treatment instructions, and prescriptions on the patient records
Certified Medical Assistant qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Completed an accredited medical assisting program and an externship in a supervised healthcare setting
Should have a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or other certifying agency
1 year of prior experience as in a medical assisting role performing administrative duties or similar position in a healthcare work environment
Possesses basic computer skills to complete administrative tasks
Strong communication skills and customer service skills
