Construction Safety Advisor job overview

Construction Safety Advisor responsibilities
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction managers to be sure all potential risk management and safety issues are addressed
  • Create and execute workplace safety programs, emergency response plans, construction safety policies, and job-site hazard analyses
  • Implement construction health and safety training programs, including new hire safety orientation
  • Perform construction site risk assessments, safety audits, and safety meetings
  • Monitor adherence to OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) safety regulations and safety standards on sites
  • Investigate job-site safety reports and lead incident and injury evaluations
  • Ensure personal protective equipment is available and used correctly
  • Issue safety reprimands and corrective action recommendations when safety concerns are present
Construction Safety Advisor qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, EHS/HSE, or related field is valuable
  • 3 years of experience in the construction industry as a safety officer, safety consultant, or in risk management/ safety management
  • OSHA 30 certification is required and OSHA 500/510 is strongly preferred
  • Has BCSP Qualified Credentials including OHST, ASP, CSP, or CHST
  • Must have a current CPR certification
  • Firm understanding of construction safety standards and regulations (OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and OHSA)
  • Familiarity with computers and MS Office is needed - safety management system software is a bonus
  • Ability to work independently and excellent project management, interpersonal, and communication skills are needed
