They use aerial lifts, hand, and power tools to perform tree maintenance, check tree and soil conditions, and remove unwanted or diseased trees. Responsibilities include watering, aerating, fertilizing, climbing, cabling, and staking existing trees, as well as planting and transplanting new trees when needed. They are also responsible for identifying and treating trees with diseases and pests. Arborists are proficient in tree and soil biology, anatomy, and composition. They typically work full time, often at dangerous heights and in bad weather conditions.
