SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) seeks an effective leader with strategic vision, sales and membership management experience, and proven problem-solving skills.

In this role, you will work across all departments to develop programs, initiatives, and policies designed to increase membership growth and engagement, as well as improve inter-departmental efficiencies and our use of data to make decisions. Vice President, Membership is responsible for managing the membership team to provide excellent member care while identifying and creating solutions to improve the member experience.

The ideal candidate will become a spokesperson for ASTA and the Membership Team and will be a regarded industry leader that brings a portfolio of valuable industry relationships and experiences to help ASTA achieve its mission to promote and defend the retail travel agency distribution channel. This role demands a professional that is strategic but is also willing to roll up his or her sleeves to get the job done. The successful candidate must be able to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee membership sales, services, and strategic Partnerships
  • Responsible for meeting annual membership revenue goals
  • Manage, guide, and mentor the Membership Department to achieve greatness and develop professionally
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to create effective communications to sell memberships to prospective members
  • Work across departments to improve data management across all technology platforms to achieve improved membership and marketing results and a seamless membership experience
  • Act as ASTA spokesperson at travel industry events and meetings
  • Mentor membership team to meet high standards of customer service to all members, prospective members, and consumers via email, phone, and in-person meetings
  • Proudly and effectively represent the members’ needs within senior leadership and board of director meetings
  • Oversee and ensure implementation of the segmented membership lifecycle plan and develop scalable strategies to increase member engagement and retain members
  • Set processes and procedures for improved workflow efficiency (i.e., invoicing, application processing, data integrity, etc.)
  • Provide updates to ASTA staff on membership department changes
  • Provide orientation on membership programs and benefits to new staff
  • Track and analyze membership data/metrics and provide analysis for Board meetings and Senior Staff
  • Responsible for overall membership structure including membership categories, dues, etc., and managing any changes to this structure (i.e., pricing changes, etc.)
  • Develop annual membership revenue budget in collaboration with Membership Team, President & CEO and Vice President, Finance
  • Leverage the technology investment to automate reporting, measure member engagement, and create a better member experience
  • Be able to identify and analyze alternative membership dues models and be able to present them to the project manager if a change in the dues structure is needed

Qualifications

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Sales and marketing savvy to retain and grow membership base
  • Strong leadership and effective communication skills
  • Ability to manage projects from concept to completion
  • Strategic planning and vision
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and related software
  • Experience with CRM tools and other software solutions (i.e., Real Magnet, iMIS, etc.)
  • Ability to drive results in a team-oriented and cross-functional environment
  • Excellent writing and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Communications, Hospitality and Tourism, Non-Profit Management, or related field
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in the travel industry or association management

Compensation
$120,000 - $130,000
