VETERANS BENEFITS ATTORNEY

Jackson-MacNichol fights for benefits for American veterans. We need an organized individual who is a team player, and who has excellent interpersonal skills to aid us in our goal of becoming one of the foremost disability law practices in the nation. If you are results-oriented, professional in both appearance and presentation, with excellent writing and oral skills who is able to adjust to a sometimes rapidly changing VA hearing schedule, and willing and eager to help guide veterans in need through the grueling process of obtaining benefits due them, we urge you to apply. Compensation is $62,000 (a higher salary possible for those with significant relevant experience)

Daily

• Review any BVA decisions on your cases, make an initial decision on whether an appeal is needed and write to the client
• Review any rating decisions on your cases and advise the case manager on what the next action to be taken on the case is
• Review and electronically sign your case manager’s outgoing mail

Weekly

• Hold a Zoom team meeting with your case manager and your group
• Participate in the weekly attorney Zoom meeting
• Before leaving on Friday, double-check to make sure your case manager’s work has been reviewed and review your calendar for hearings and hearing-related tasks such as client calls and evaluations letters to make sure there are no emergencies to be handled and the next week’s schedule has no conflicts

    Monthly

• Prepare (including full review of the file) and present BVA hearings for 15 clients
• Preparation calls for the 15 hearing clients by phone or Zoom
• Draft the medical and vocational evaluation requests including attaching any critical records for the evaluator
• Draft post hearing memos, as needed, when the evidence is assembled

Current accreditation with the VA is preferred. A J.D. and having sat for the bar are required to be hired. Social Security Law or Veterans Disability Law experience a plus. Any further requirements (e.g., admission to practice before the Court of Veterans Appeals) can be achieved later while you work with us. You must possess strong legal research and writings skills and you must work well in a team environment.
