Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Reverse Mortgage Underwriting Manager is to take ownership of the Reverse Mortgage underwriting department ensuring that underwritten loans adhere to Homecision powered by PSI Lending guidelines, comply with all state and federal regulations, and are saleable on the secondary market. Daily activities include monitoring the quality and volume of business, assisting in developing new ways to develop business opportunities, and refining workflow procedures.

The Reverse Mortgage Underwriting Manager leads by example building a cohesive team of mortgage underwriters. Communicating and executing underwriting philosophies and strategies to achieve quality and production goals, while providing ongoing staff training to improve both personal and professional growth within the organization.

LEADERSHIP

  • Engage other department managers as needed to ensure a close working relationship between all departments for maximum efficiency.
  • Engage in company initiatives, projects, and meetings as related to Reverse Underwriting.
  • Interface with Sales Management regarding trending loan issues, client trends, and production trends
  • Provide executive management with any feedback that may make the underwriting process more efficient and/or provide for higher quality control, and perform other related duties as assigned by management.
  • Recruit and develop underwriting talent as directed and participate in the development of new hire departmental training guides.
  • Manage all processes within the department and continuously evaluate for process improvement and greater efficiencies.
  • Encourage Reverse Mortgage Underwriters and team leads to make educated decisions based on knowledge and experience.

PIPELINE MANAGEMENT

  • Proactively participate in daily, weekly, monthly individual performance planning and time management meetings with the manager, establishing and managing personal financial forecasts in accordance with Employer's policies and procedures, coordinating with management to ensure that expectations are met.
  • Required to participate in all Employer-sponsored training, and attend all mandatory company meetings, and continue to seek out additional educational opportunities related to the Reverse Mortgage industry.
  • Stay abreast of Reverse Mortgage guidelines, updates, and requirements to include all regulatory requirements.

COMPLIANCE

  • Monitor and manage pipeline to ensure Fair Lending, HMDA, and ECOA compliance.
  • Ensure underwriters review QC findings monthly. Report findings to Compliance Manager.
  • Participate in the management and revision of PSI Underwriting Policies Procedures manual
  • Measure all Reverse Mortgage loan submissions for underwriting decisions based on company quality control plans and investor/regulatory compliance.
  • Review Reverse Mortgage loan submissions to detect and report any form of fraud, inconsistency, misrepresentations.
  • Manage and maintain an acceptable level of department Data Integrity for all systems.
  • Regularly communicate with the underwriting staff on guidelines, policies, and procedures as needed.
  • Perform all Reverse Mortgage underwriting due diligence according to Employer’s direction and utilizing Employer-authorized tools.
  • Attend mandatory ABA training as required by management.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in Underwriting
  • At least 5 years of experience in Reverse Mortgage
  • At least 5 years of experience in Management
  • Extensive knowledge of the mortgage industry and FHA HECM guidelines as well as state/federal regulations
  • Strong management skills and ability to encourage and promote company culture.
  • Quick learner with a willingness to acquire new skills.
  • Pleasant demeanor with clients and internal employees via phone and email
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Excellent communication skills oral and written, time management, decision-making, and multi-tasking abilities.
