Summary of duties and responsibilities

  • Make compaction dies, extrusion dies, isostatic pins, injection molds.
  • Repair dies and tooling that become worn or broken.
  • Troubleshoot forming problems that may be related to tooling issues.
  • Make fixtures, gauges and tools to manufacture parts to customer specification. 

Responsibilities

  • Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Create tooling for compacting, isostatic, and extrusion using supplied detailed prints.
  • Create fixtures, jigs, gauges, to support manufacturing using supplied prints and/or sketches.
  • Analyze parts to determine various machine methods.
  • Select proper raw materials to fabricate fixtures, gauges and tools.
  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Troubleshoot tooling related problems in forming areas.
  • Measure tooling components using available measuring devices to ensure that components are to print.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as directed.

Education, work experience, and specialized skills and knowledge:

  • Associate degree in machine tool technology or equivalent experience preferred.
  • High School Graduate or GED Equivalent.
  • Must have completed Tool & Die Apprenticeship program or equivalent education & experience.
  • Must read and interpret blueprints.
  • Math skills including being proficient in shop trigonometry.
  • Must be highly skilled in setup and use of all equipment in the Tool & Die shop (Lathe, drill press, surface grinder, centerless grinder, milling machine, jig grinder, jig borer, CNC electrical discharge machines, etc.)
  • Must be highly skilled in bench work associated with tool & die (fitting, polishing, lapping, etc.)
  • Must be capable of producing tooling components to extremely tight tolerances.
  • Must be capable of deciding proper sequence of manufacturing steps and procedures necessary to produce tooling effectively. 

Physical requirements:

  • Lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Reaching, stretching, stooping, standing
  • Hand/Eye coordination

Working conditions:

  • Manufacturing Environment 

Equipment used:

  • Tool & Die equipment and systems, grinders, EDM, CNC Programming, Lathes, saws, buffing,
  • Safety equipment /goggles/safety glasses
  • Measuring instruments, micrometers, calipers, QA measuring tools
  • Hand tools

In-Plant Handling of Hazardous Waste:

  • None 

Qualifications

Compensation
$18 - $25 hourly
