Experienced (Sr.) Paralegal (divorce and family law)

We are a Divorce and Family law firm in Hackensack, New Jersey. We help professional men and good fathers through the divorce and family law process, so they don’t get railroaded by the legal system or their spouse. In a nutshell, we help smart men from making stupid decisions when getting divorced. We believe in working hard to settle cases when at all possible, but we are not afraid to roll up our sleeves and throw some punches in court when that is the best option available.
We are looking for a hardworking, detail-oriented, adaptable individual to add to our Paralegal Staff.
What are some characteristics that our Sr. Paralegal should have?
Skills and experience are required, appreciated, and valued, but personality, character, intelligence, open-mindedness, adaptability, and integrity will be paramount considerations. Low-maintenance, good humor, humble individuals will succeed in this position so please apply. You do need to have a high level of self-esteem, empathy, and compassion. We do not function well and provide the best service for clients if our office is toxic or has negative or combative attitudes.
You must be competent and proficient in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), at a bare minimum. The more computer experience you have the better. If you are familiar with other legal software, that is definitely a plus. Or at least knowing that computers and software come somewhat intuitive to you. We prefer people who are not afraid of computers or learning new things that will make their jobs easier (work smarter, not harder).
We are a big proponent of having digital files for each client and we scan everything and then some. You will be doing that too and ensuring that they are saved in the proper place with the proper firm nomenclature. Hence, why being extremely detail-oriented is an important and core competency.
In addition to all of this, we need someone who prides themselves on being organized and laser-focused. If you frazzle easily or get overwhelmed at the drop of a hat, you will not be happy here. We are fast-paced, so you will need to be able to keep up and adapt quickly. We want every team member to take ownership of their role and understand the importance of having integrity in their work product. Knowing when to solve a problem on your own (FIFO) and also having the judgment and awareness in certain circumstances when to ask for assistance.
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our office is open Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a full-time position. We would be willing to consider a remote position if traveling to the office if/when necessary would not be overly complicated.

We don't want to pay you to socialize, surf the Internet, e-mail friends, and family, or any other non-work-related activities while you are working—whether you are in the office or remotely. This does not mean that our office is not a fun environment, it just means we know when we have to work, and we know when to have fun at the office. And, we really try to have fun while we work too.
With regard to compensation, it is competitive based upon skillset and actual experience (not just # of years you are a paralegal) and is subject to review after 90 days. We want to pay you more the more you earn and prove yourself invaluable to the firm.

What will our Paralegal do?
You will be one of the first points of contact for clients and potential clients with the firm, as well as for opposing parties, opposing counsel, and courthouse staff. You will have direct interaction with clients, and you will assist them with preparing budgets, discovery responses, affidavits (Motions, Certifications), and more all while navigating the myriad and emotions inherent in family law. You will be in charge of taming the telephone, email, and calendar for at least one (or two) lawyers.
Our Paralegal will also be in charge of managing and delegating to any legal assistants and being the one point of contact between the lawyers and the rest of the legal department.
You must be a team player. This is non-negotiable. We are strong believers in the team approach and our office is a team environment. What does this exactly mean? The Owner of the firm makes coffee and copies when needed. We expect you to do the same and pitch hit where you see you can help out. Although not mandatory, we really want everyone to join in together on our team-building retreats and exercises.
