Responsibilities
- Stay updated on changing applicable laws and statutes on the local, state, and federal levels
- Strategize, prepare for, and attend trial proceedings, mediation, and arbitration
- Supervise and mentor lower level attorneys in proper conflict resolution techniques
- Complete legal research and prepare motions, pleadings, and briefs
- Argue motions in court on behalf of clients during legal proceedings
- Prepare for and attend Trials, Mediations, Arbitrations, and Depositions
- Background Research & Case Development
- Responsible for Effective Planning and Execution of cases
- Effectively Handles Negotiation & Settlement Discussions
- Witness Preparation & Development
Qualifications
- Completion of a 4-year bachelor’s degree, as well as 3-year law degree from an accredited law school
- Exceptional time management and interpersonal skills are desired, as are exceptional writing and verbal communication skills
- 5 years of required experience as a senior associate in the legal field
- Member of state and local bar associations in good standing
- Previous experience advocating for clients in trials, mediation, and arbitration
- Demonstrated experience in successfully executing legal strategy, taking depositions, motion practice, trial, arbitration, hearings, producing witnesses for depositions, and other key litigation events
- In addition to excelling at researching and brief writing, the ideal candidate should be adept at critical thinking, persuasion, ability to see the big picture, finding and focusing on what’s important, and communicating effectively amongst team members, other attorneys, the Court and staff, co-counsel, and outside vendors
- Proven track record in navigating state and federal court systems
- Work independently while handling a heavy caseload
- Persuasive writing skills and verbal communication skills are critical, along with time management and interpersonal skills
- 3-5 years of experience working as a senior associate attorney preferred
- Four-year bachelor’s degree and successful completion of law school from an accredited law school
- An active member in good standing with Kansas and Missouri state bar associations. Other states have a bonus (Illinois, California, etc.)
