We are looking for an experienced Attorney for our fast-growing law firm. Yes, this position does require you to be present in Erie occasionally. We are flexible about working remotely, or working from home, but you should plan on being in the office at least 25% of the time.

What are some of the characteristics that any member of our team must have?

You must be a positive person. If you see the glass half full, you are the type of person we are looking for. We have a zero-tolerance policy for toxic people and workplace drama. Our team is outstanding and does amazing work. We do not do well with negative attitudes, whiners, complainers, or victims, and you definitely will not fit in if you even think that you may fit into one of the above categories of negative people.

We need people who are not afraid of computers or learning new things that will make their jobs easier. You must be proficient with Word, Outlook, Dropbox, electronic legal research, and basic case management. Also, we’re looking for someone who not only “follows” policies and procedures, but also embraces them and are thankful they exist. In fact, if you get excited about creating new policies, procedures, templates, checklists, or systems because you know they make your life easier, you’ll probably make your way to the top of our list.

We need high energy and enthusiasm for the work we do (and life in general). You must be able to work fast and change gears quickly. You must be able to think on your feet and make smart decisions.

You also need to be detail-oriented. We plan to help a lot of people launch businesses and create lasting opportunities.

We produce significant amounts of work on sometimes tight schedules. Working fast is no excuse for careless mistakes. No one’s life or business should be negatively impacted because our firm didn’t file the right documents, do the right searches, or meet deadlines. It can’t happen.

You must be willing to go the extra mile to get the job done right the first time. In our practice, getting it done right the first time for our clients is very important and we need everyone to work with this goal in mind.

You have emotional intelligence and empathy. You cannot be someone who does not take criticism well or cannot deal well with people. You must be a team player. Our team is growing, and you will be instrumental in that growth. We are strong believers in the team approach and our office is a team environment, so if you are not a team player, this is not the job for you. If you think you can fake being a team player, you can’t. Don’t try.

You need to be able to talk to people in a manner that is confident, kind, and candid. You might need to deliver difficult messages with compassion and without talking down, barking, or snapping. You must be able and willing to confront issues early and head-on to help the team grow and thrive. While it is important to show that you care about our clients, it is more important to care about them. Plus, this role comes with the added responsibility of supervising other attorneys.

Do you understand the difference between a dad joke and a bad joke? This is important because a variety of each echoes throughout our office on a daily basis. You will not be required to laugh at all of the Owner’s jokes, but it will be noted when it is time for your performance reviews.

With regard to compensation, it is negotiable based upon experience and is subject to review after 180 days. The compensation package plan will give you some control over what you can earn working for our firm. If we succeed, you will too!

Responsibilities

This role will work directly with our clients. From the initial "handoff" meeting, after the client works with our sales department, all the way through the closing of the file, you will be responsible for helping the clients accomplish their goals.

We want someone with some real-world business experience. Frequently, the best advice is not just legal advice - it's also business or financial advice.

Your primary duties will be:

  • assume full responsibility for the legal production pipeline, from intake to delivery of work to the client
  • manage a dynamic caseload
  • ensure all legal work is completed efficiently, accurately, and on-time
  • potentially supervise a team of associate attorney

To be successful, you must be confident, flexible, growth-minded, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, responsive, and a thorough and precise researcher, writer, and speaker.

Qualifications

We think the right candidate will have between 5-10 years of experience handling an active caseload.

You must be good with basic technology. Experience with the Mac and Windows Operating Systems, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Pro, Casemaker, Rocket Matter, G Suite, and/or Dropbox is preferred but not required.

You must have an active law license in Pennsylvania.

Excellent references are required.
