Bradford Allen

BA is seeking a Research Director/Manager to support our different business units: office brokerage, asset and property management, consulting services, debt origination, and acquisitions.

Reporting to the Senior Managing Director, Research & Communications, the Research Director/Manager is a high-profile role that works across the firm—as well as with data vendors—to gather, distill, and provide value-add insights and intelligence. He/she will conduct market analysis on a regular and ad-hoc basis, generating digestible, institutional-quality research content for internal and external audiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for an entrepreneurial, ambitious, analytically rigorous, creative, and clear thinker with top-notch research and communication skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate competence with advanced data collection, management, and interpretation tools. Experience with commercial real estate is helpful but not necessary; a research background, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic are essential.

  • With the Senior Managing Director, produce digestible, innovative research content that adds value to the business and differentiates Bradford Allen from competitors
  • Prepare quarterly reports for the Chicago office market—the CBD as well as the Suburbs—and all relevant submarkets.
  • Source, capture, store, and share statistical data to generate value-add insights and build compelling narratives
  • Surveil industry and non-industry media for critical stories, actionable intelligence, and emerging trends
  • Compile and maintain a user-friendly lease and sales comps database
  • Compile and update a tenants-in-the-market list
  • Maintain broker contact lists for marketing purposes and events
  • Track large vacancy increases and leasing agent changes that may prove useful in identifying leads
  • Track investment sales, buildings on the market, and new development
  • Assist brokers on pitches with any required information

  • Advanced understanding of research methodologies and facility with data collection, management, and analytics
  • Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge, or a quick study, of CRE software (CoStar, CompStack, Real Capital Analytics, MSCI)
  • Working knowledge, or a quick study, of workflow management software (Wrike)
  • Working knowledge, or a quick study, of CRM software (RealNex, Delius)
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple projects in a high-stakes work environment
  • A high degree of professionalism—able to confidently present complex information to internal stakeholders and external clients
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Highly communicative and mature—able to work independently and as part of a team; able to give, accept and apply frank feedback.
  • Able to work with and maintain confidential information and materials
