We are looking for a professional writer and experienced writing coach who will come to us with extensive knowledge and understanding of creative writing. Your focus is guiding our students through the writing process for their private school admissions statements. Your insight and expertise will strengthen our students’ writing abilities while ensuring that they correctly and accurately answer the relevant admissions essay prompts while conveying their thoughts and ideas in an engaging format.

Location: Vancouver, BC (on-site)


  • Play an essential role in providing professional support and expertise to both the KEY Admissions department and the Education department
  • Work with KEY Admissions department in writing, reviewing, and revising admissions statements of clients
  • Work with students ranging from Age 6-15 on private school admission statements writing, help them brainstorm topic ideas, and guide them through the editing/revision process through private and/or group class lessons
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning and foster your student’s interest in learning
  • Provide appropriate feedback on student work, progress, or concerns to KEY stakeholders
  • Work integrally with KEY educators to evaluate, revise and recommend improvements to the current writing class
  • Work to understand and leverage KEY’s program goals and educational strategies.
  • Must be flexible in working weekends


  • Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Creative Writing, Journalism, or related fields, preferably from a Canadian, US, or UK university, or a comparable credential
  • Familiar with private schools admission requirements is preferred
  • Current or previous private school parent, alumni, and/or work experience at a local private/independent school is considered an asset

  • Strong knowledge of storytelling conventions, English language requirements for students, and journalistic interview skills to help students identify and expand on their creativity
  • Strong editorial, and writing skills
  • Capability to learn quickly. Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills
  • Cultural sensitivity: promote an inclusive environment exemplified by understanding various cultural groups
  • A team player, demonstrate strong competence to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Balance a multitude of tasks and prioritize duties as needed. Able to work with tight deadlines
  • Punctuality and reliability to meet all scheduled class sessions
  • Professionalism: demonstrate professional standards of conduct when interacting with individuals in a business environment
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship

$40,000 - $45,000 yearly
