Harding Mazzotti, LLP

Social Security Disability paralegals work alongside attorneys and case coordinators, assisting individuals with physical and or/mental disabilities to file and pursue claims for Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income.

• Perform a thorough review of records and utilize information gathered in support of claims
• Handle a high-volume caseload, monitor deadlines efficiently
• Perform the duties of the Legal Assistant/Assistant Paralegal as needed
• Review, process and distribute incoming mail, documenting within case management software, setting tasks and deadlines as appropriate
• Request, obtain and generate all records, documents and forms required to pursue claims, hearings and appeals
• Gather, review and upload records and evidence obtained in support of claims, hearings and appeals, ensuring completeness and that all deadlines for submissions are met
• Prepare and handle correspondence with claimants, medical providers, government agencies, and law judges
• Prepare and file electronic or paper claims, hearing requests and appeals, and timely follow-up on all claims until determinations and decisions are rendered
• Conduct periodic status checks and monitor all claims, including making calls to seek information about claims and eligibility
• Collect earnings and benefit information from administrative agencies
• Assist in maintaining statistics for departmental reports

Required Education and Qualifications

• High school or equivalent required; certificate in paralegal studies or related areas preferred
• Strong knowledge of PC applications, Windows, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrate compassion and client-centered service
• Must be very organized and deadline driven

Preferred Experience

• Social Security Disability or Workers’ Compensation experience is helpful, but not required
