GROWING CRIMINAL DEFENSE LAW FIRM SEEKING A PARALEGAL

The Maine Criminal Defense Group is looking for the right candidate to join our team as a Paralegal for an in-person position in our Kennebunk Maine office.  If you have a minimum of 3 years of working as a Paralegal in a law firm and enjoy a fast-paced environment, this is an opportunity for you!

Responsibilities

This position requires expert knowledge of MAC systems, confidence in communicating on the phone with the legal system, agencies and vendors, current clients and potential clients; working within established policies and procedures; attending weekly staff meetings; drafting legal documents and correspondence; keeping track of client case stages and matters; prepping and processing legal documentation; scanning, photocopying, and periodic filing. Additionally:

  • Draft legal documents, pleadings, and correspondence such as motions to suppress evidence, motions in limine, juror questionnaires, internal legal briefs of case-specific legal issues, client case update and closing letters, etc., under the supervision and guidance of a criminal attorney
  • Receive, examine, evaluate, and brief new and complex criminal cases for the legal team
  • Gather information about legal issues while conducting client interviews
  • Organize and manage discovery for the attorneys
  • Draft subpoenas and coordinate with process servers
  • Track and monitor case matters, from start to finish, to ensure clients are receiving the highest level of communication and service

Qualifications

  • ABA-approved paralegal certificates program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Extensive experience working under an attorney in a law firm, public defender’s office, or state/federal prosecutor’s office
  • Litigation support experience with knowledge of the capabilities and use of technology for the development, presentation, and defense of state and federal criminal cases
  • Experience drafting legal correspondence and motions for attorney review
  • High level working knowledge, familiarity, and comfort using Westlaw or Lexis Nexis legal research suites
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Expert with Mac Operating System
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and comfortable with software systems used to support legal work.

Compensation
$26 - $32 hourly
