Cocheco Elder Law Associates, PLLC is looking for a versatile and experienced elder law Paralegal to enhance our team! The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of elder law, be organized, be deadline-oriented, and be dedicated to keeping the files progressing to completion. This role works independently and collaborates with lawyers and client services to address all areas of elder law, including preparing probate filings, estates, and trust administration, drafting estate planning documents, and Medicaid applications. Additional responsibilities include communicating with clients and attending to their needs and concerns, guiding clients step-by-step through the process, maintaining client files, performing research, managing deadlines, electronic filings, and other tasks as assigned.

This is a full-time, in-office position for our Dover, New Hampshire office. Responsibilities

  • Assist with all aspects of probate and trust administration from open to close.
  • Promptly respond to clients' calls, needs, and concerns.
  • Prepare legal correspondence and documents with minimal direction, such as wills, trusts, living documents, deeds, Medicaid forms, applications, and court pleadings.
  • Conduct research necessary to complete documents.
  • Maintain client database and records following company protocols.
  • Handling all aspects of estate administration, including identifying and collecting assets, maintaining estate bank accounts, paying/tracking estate expenditures, and distributions to beneficiaries.
  • Working with clients and other sources to gather all information required to file a Medicaid application.
  • Drafting estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives, and deeds according to company procedures.
  • Additional other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Strong preference for candidates who have completed a paralegal professional certification or have an advanced paralegal education
  • Must have great time-management skills, and organizational skills

  • An Associate’s Degree or equivalent with 3-5 years of practical paralegal experience is preferred. We are willing to train and invest in a less experienced but highly qualified and motivated candidate, with an aptitude to learn.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office.
  • Familiarity with document management software preferred. EOE
  • Experience in Maine probate or Medicaid is a plus!

Compensation
$20 - $25 DOE
