Turion's mission is to build a sustainable future in space. Turion will launch its first DROID satellite in May of 2023. As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will help design and build our satellites and satellite mechanisms. You will be part of the mechanical engineering team and work on the conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design, analysis, fabrication, and testing of our vehicles and mechanisms.

  • Design, analyze, manufacture, and test structural components and assemblies for our current and vehicles and mechanisms
  • Work with team members to define load conditions and requirements for specific assemblies and components
  • Generate detailed designs and conduct static, dynamic, and modal structural analysis as required, via hand-calcs and/or computational methods
  • Generate test plans, and coordinate component/assembly testing and documentation to ensure components function as designed
  • Capture and synthesize structural design approaches and knowledge to improve future designs
  • Identify opportunities to increase structural efficiency and reduce mass and cost

  • Experience with design, manufacturing, and testing of satellite systems and/or mechanisms
  • Hands-on experience in solid modeling, drawing release of structures, actuator mechanisms
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, self-driven entrepreneurial workplace

About Turion Space

Turion Space was formed with the vision of building technology required for humanity's interplanetary future. To achieve this goal, Turion Space is building low-earth-orbit spacecraft to move things in space and gather SDA data when we're not. Active development includes mission control, flight software, ground software, testing, design, build, and operations. The fleet of satellites begins with the DROID.001 mission "Just Get it Up There" launching in June 2023. DROID.001 will be the first dedicated SSA satellite in the United States.
