We are looking for an experienced legal assistant who can help the busy attorneys and paralegals at our law office assist our clients. You’ll be responsible for managing office correspondence, including answering phone calls and emails, arranging meetings and travel, and ensuring our legal team is aware of upcoming deadlines. You’ll also assist with preparing legal documents and contracts, and perform any other tasks as needed to ensure our firm is operating efficiently. Responsibilities
  • Take care of administrative tasks and office correspondence by answering phone calls and emails, communicating with opposing attorney offices, taking dictation, and informing the team of upcoming deadlines
  • Process client billing properly using daily time records with help from the accounting department
  • Accept other administrative tasks as needed to assist the team and ensure the firm runs smoothly

  • Under the supervision of attorneys, prepare immigration forms, applications, and supporting documents;
  • Conduct intakes, by phone and in person, and interview clients to gather or clarify information;
  • Provide support to VAWA unit and other staff as needed
  • Translate documents;
  • Establish, organize and maintain files; Maintain document control, tracking and tracing; review case files;

Qualifications
  • Organizational skills and communication skills are necessary for this position
  • Experience with legal software, litigation case management, and docketing programs
  • Applicants must be able to type 50 words per minute or faster
  • At least 1-2 years of previous experience in a law firm setting performing administrative tasks
  • Proficient with MS Office products

  • Experience with immigration law and the general knowledge of the US immigration system. Any experience with VAWA petitions or Immigration Waivers or family petitions (forms I-130, I-1485, I-765) is preferred
  • Applicants must be able to read, write, and speak Spanish at a native or fluent level. Portuguese is a plus

Compensation
$14 - $16 hourly
