Diamond Legal, P.C.

Our rapidly growing, family-run law firm is seeking an experienced Professional Legal Administrator (a/k/a Chief Operating Officer or Director of Operations) who has a passion for processes, a love of legal work, and a commitment to customer service to work closely with our executive team.

As one of the oldest, established law firms in Northern Illinois, we focus on helping clients with family law issues and in residential real estate closings. Our vision of changing the way people view their attorneys is rooted in our core values: connect with people, always be curious, seek the simple solution and give clients the Amazon experience. We feel that we are the uncommon law office where we strive to be known as valuable guides and problem solvers and not as avaricious money-grubbers.

With lofty goals for growth, we are excited about finding an executive-level PLA with hands-on experience in all phases of running an office and growing a successful business to join our team of attorneys, paralegals and staff who are all committed to our dream and being part of the Diamond Family. The PLA will be responsible for improving both our people and our systems by planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the day-to-day operations of the Firm.

We are not looking for an Office Manager/Executive Assistant. We have one already and she is amazing. What we do need is a PLA who can demonstrate prior success in increasing profitability, managing a team of more than 20 people and a administering a budget of at least $5 million.

For this critical role in our firm, we will consider not only skills and experience, but also attitude, behavior, habits, and values. If the following statements apply to you, then you may be the right person for the job:

  • I love change. It is my life. I love sharing it, driving it and I thrive in it!
  • There is no such thing as a problem. There is a challenge or an opportunity and I am more than capable of finding a solution to whatever comes my way.
  • I love to work, I work hard and sometimes I work long hours. But I appreciate that life does exist outside of the office and know how to balance both (and that applies to myself as well as other members of the team).
  • I am generous with praise when praise is due and am not afraid to share constructive criticism when it is appropriate.
  • I acknowledge that being a PLA can be a lonely and stressful job, but I have thick skin and can handle conflict and objections all day long.
  • I don’t see a mess. I see an opportunity for the organization.
  • Too much work? Nope. Just a chance to hone my already impressive juggling skills.

The PLA we select will:

  • Work closely with the Law Firm Owners on strategic planning, project management, and workflows, financial oversight, HR, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Have a key leadership role in helping us grow and become more profitable
  • Play an instrumental role in the future success of the firm

Knowledge of family law and residential real estate is helpful as our PLA is expected to do “air traffic control” to ensure clients receive the care and handholding they need and deserve, make sure our systems and processes are working efficiently and our employees understand and follow clearly defined procedures.

We have visionaries in our firm who understand that the difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Now, what we need is a motivated and focused implementer who can help us design plans, procedures, and processes to achieve our goals and realize those dreams, who deeply understand employee engagement, and who is eats, lives, and breathes KPIs.

This is an executive-level position with a compensation package up to $100,000 that includes a salary component plus incentives driven by defined KPIs for expected law firm growth, profitability, and culture

Since this is not a decision to be made lightly, the interview process will consist of multiple stages so that we can get to know each other and make sure we are a good match.

Applications may only be made via Wizehire, not directly to the firm. If you are interested and have the qualifications to excel at this position, you must follow these instructions to apply:

  • All applications must include a current, up-to-date resumé.
  • All applications must include a 1 to 2-page cover letter. The letter should tell us (a) at least 2 reasons why you became a PLA, (b) your greatest achievement as a PLA, and (c) your most memorable childhood memory and why it is important to you.
  • All applications must include a separate document that lists exactly 3 professional referrals (not 1 referral and not 4 referrals) that we may contact along with their name, title, place of business, current phone number, and a valid email.

Attention to detail is important in this position so following the instructions above will help you advance to the next round.

We take pride in being a law firm known for helping the families in our community for almost half a century and we look forward to continuing to help even more people in the next 50 years. So that we can continue to grow our culture of caring for clients and employees alike, we will be interviewing as many qualified PLAs as apply.  If you are the right person for the job, we are excited to meet you!

  • The equivalent of a bachelor’s degree or MBA in Business, Finance, Accounting or a related field
  • Experience in finance, budgeting, operational process refinement and HR in a professional services firm
  • Advanced technology skills including a broad knowledge of CRMs and operating systems, both hardware and software, and proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel
  • A great sense of humor: you don’t need to have a stand-up gig at the local comedy club or know all the bad lawyer jokes out there (there are just too many), but the ability to laugh at your mistakes and to appreciate some of our quirkier employees is a must.
