Our law firm is growing and we are looking for a passionate matrimonial/family law attorney who will zealously represent our clients. You will assist in navigating and representing individuals as they go through a difficult time. The prime candidate will have experience with a range of sensitive legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence, and be able to maintain composure, negotiate, and argue effectively even in emotional and high-stress situations. The legal team has an open door approach fostering a collaborative atmosphere. The Colwell Law Group's culture is positive, supportive, and goal-driven. Responsibilities

Examples of duties and responsibilities:

  • Manage a growing caseload while simultaneously learning this practice area
  • Regular and timely communication with clients
  • Draft pleadings and various other legal documents in a timely manner
  • Attend court appearances and conferences
  • Provide clear and direct legal advice and strategy decisions to clients in order to effectuate their goal
  • Achieve the billable hour requirement expected by the firm
  • Work with the billing department for accurate and appropriate billing of clients

Qualifications

An ideal candidate will be admitted (or pending admission) to the New York State Bar with a desire to work in civil litigation with the key requirements of:

  • Aspiration to attend court appearances, conduct settlement negotiations, and interact with clients and opposing counsel
  • Desire to work in the matrimonial and family law field
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, especially interacting with clients
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills
  • Proactiveness, resourcefulness, and strong work ethic
  • Ability to analyze and summarize legal documents and synthesize legal issues for litigation
  • Extremely detail-oriented, strong interpersonal skills, and manage priorities in a sensitive area of law
  • Willingness to work in a team and contribute to the overall goals of a growing law firm

Admission to the New York State Bar will be required.
Job Type: Full Time
Schedule: Monday through Friday

Compensation
$70,000 to $85,000 - competitive bonus program
