Job Overview:

This is an 8-14 week contract position for an Interim Director of Health Services at an Assisted Living Community. Hours will be 9a-5p; On-Call will NOT be required. Facility is located in Pickerington, Ohio, and reliable transportation is required.

DHS will ensure health services issues of residents, as well as other service issues of residents that potentially impact health, are effectively addressed. Perform certain duties related to employee health and safety. 


Oversee and address all Health Service Issues of residents, including but not limited to:

  • Maintain all state health-related requirements to comply with state regulations
  • Maintain a strict code of ethics related to matters of business operation, finances, and confidentiality of all aspects of the business
  • Ability to work in a team setting with commitment and respect for all individuals while enforcing Client’s Cooperation and Teamwork Policy on a continual basis
  • Ability to routinely work under time constraints, meet deadlines and handle stress in a constructive manner
  • Ability to adhere to and enforce all Client’s policies, procedures, and standards
  • Ensure compliance with designated Director of Health Services’ full-time work schedule as regular, reliable attendance and punctuality are required
  • Exercise managerial and supervisory authority in a manner that complies with the Client’s guidelines, policies, and applicable laws. Interpret, implement and effectively enforce Community practices consistent with such policies and law
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state or provincial regulations pertaining to health services
  • Ensure a stable Medication Room (MA/CN) staff of optimal quality and quantity by working cooperatively with the Assistant Administrator to recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, counsel, and, if necessary, terminate employees
  • Ensure a stable Resident Assistant (RA) staff by providing oversight and working cooperatively with the Resident Services Coordinator (RSC)
  • Complete Competency Evaluations as required to evaluate the Medication Assistants/Charge Nurses/LPN’s per Client policy
  • Complete or assist with the completion of Initial Evaluation and Subsequent Evaluations of residents and all other required and/or appropriate evaluations, addressing physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs
  • Develop or assist with developing Service Plans, ensuring health services issues, as well as other issues that potentially impact the health and safety of residents, are effectively addressed
  • Ensure that health services, as well as other services that potentially impact resident health and safety, are offered according to Service Plans
  • Promptly monitor physician orders to ensure correct and timely implementation
  • Promptly monitor laboratory and other test results to ensure optimum resident health
  • Monitor Alert Charting, with emphasis on ensuring appropriate employee response to issues. Evaluate residents, at minimum upon initiation and completion of Alert Charting process
  • Monitor and address other issues, logs, and reports, as required by Client
  • Advise Health Services employees concerning resident health issues
  • Effectively use and coordinate resident services with home health, hospice, and other outside providers
  • Ensure Health Services employees adhere to all Medication Room systems according to Client policy
  • Investigate and document all controlled substances count discrepancies and notify Administrator; ensure controlled substances are destroyed as mandated per Client policy and state regulations
  • Ensure resident charts are organized and thinned as required per Client policy
  • Ensure quarterly physician orders are reviewed, sent to physician and physician has signed and returned the same
  • Ensure that Community health services supplies are ordered, adhering to Health Services Department budget
  • Ensure resident tuberculosis screenings are performed as required by state regulations
  • Perform quality assurance audits as directed by the Administrator or Regional Director
  • Effectively and professionally communicate with residents, residents’ family members, and other concerned parties as appropriate

Monitor MAR on an ongoing basis to:

  • Ensure medications and treatments are administered as ordered
  • Establish parameters for administration of PRN medications and treatments
  • Establish weight and vital signs regimens and related notification parameters and ensure documentation per Client policy
  • Ensure appropriate use for medications and treatments entered on MAR
  • Ensure hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia protocols present with MAR for diabetic residents
  • Ensure MAR Book organized per policy

Other Job duties as required by law and as assigned. This position is considered a universal employee worker and may be cross-trained in other positions as directed by supervisor. 


  • Director of Nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Current Registered Nurse professional license in good standing in accordance with state regulations
  • Current CPR certification and any other certifications necessary to comply with applicable state hiring requirements
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to hire
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with residents and staff
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience in computer use and relevant software applications; MS Word and Excel preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to lift 10-25 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 50 lbs

$40 - $45 hourly
