Experienced Family Law Litigation Paralegal - able to work independently

Our law firm in The Woodlands, TX is growing! And we need an experienced, full-time Family Law Paralegal. You must have family law experience to be considered for this position - this is not a trainee position!
You will find more information below about the position, requirements, and qualifications associated with this opening.

About Us and The Job:

Are you a family law paralegal looking for a full-time, in-person opportunity? Our growing, busy law firm is seeking to welcome an additional, seasoned paralegal into our beautiful, new office space. We are known for helping our clients come through a difficult and emotional process and into a new beginning for themselves and their families, so we're looking for candidates who go beyond legal strategy and litigation to demonstrate extraordinary compassion and care for every client.

Why join the DeFord Law Firm?

Like many opportunities out there, our pay and benefits are competitive. Unlike most firms, we provide incredible career path opportunities that recognize a paralegal's long-term professional goals and unique gifts. This may include development, experiences, and leadership with marketing, purposeful networking, specialized certifications...and more. If you're looking for an employer invested in your own professional growth, we're a great fit.

For the cover letter you prepare for us, we would have a few specific tasks. Please limit it to no more than TWO paragraphs. In the first paragraph, explain what you believe are the three most important qualities needed in someone who works with family law clients and why you believe they are the most essential qualities. In the second paragraph, explain why you applied to this particular ad.

We look forward to reviewing your application.

Responsibilities

Our paralegals will be primarily responsible for important work in family law court:

  • You should know how to draft petitions, orders, discovery, and all the other documents involved in family law. We use practice management and drafting software and have our own templates, but you should be able to choose the right one and build the first draft.
  • Family law is messy, and there is often no right or best answer. Even gathering the information can be difficult. You will need to be creative, organized, and efficient to do your job well.
  • We all make mistakes, and we allow for that, but a penchant for accuracy and attention to detail are required to avoid mistakes that can cost our clients dearly.
  • You will be working on many cases concurrently, over long periods of time. We expect you to keep track of key dates, keep the right people informed, and prioritize your time so that we never miss a deadline.
  • You should treat a case at 4:30 pm on Friday with the same care and compassion as one on Monday morning at 9:00 am.
  • You should have the ability to track and record your time contemporaneously.
  • Our clients are dealing with massive stress and anxiety. You should be empathetic and help put them at ease.
  • We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running. We are not looking to train a paralegal, we want a paralegal who can train others.
  • We are a high-tech office. This should not scare you.
  • We like all team members to display a growth mindset, always willing to learn and grow.

Qualifications

  • You MUST have prior family law experience!!

Compensation
$60,000 - $70,000 yearly
