Family Law Attorney with experience in Colorado

There is a better way to practice Family Law.

That is the premise of New Leaf Family. If you agree, you may want to read on!

The founders of New Leaf believe that:

  • There is a better way to handle family conflict;
  • Each client is best suited to determine what he/she wants in the next chapter of their life;
  • We can better serve clients by helping them build the future that they want, instead of imposing the “traditional” family law solutions;
  • That the members of our team thrive in an environment focused on empowering our clients.

And we are hiring.

We are looking for family law attorneys, with experience, who would like to work with a team that believes as we do, and who want to reduce the attorney-induced drama needless escalation of conflict, and focus instead on building a future with and for clients.

The system as practiced in many firms seems designed to wear down the clients, and the attorneys. There is a better way of doing things, so that the balance, most days, has you feeling awesome about how much you are positively affecting people’s lives. We can't eliminate the tough days ... we're not magicians ... but we are on a mission, and that makes it a lot more fun!

To be a good fit for this role, you should be someone who is looking for an opportunity to focus on helping people navigate the biggest decisions they will face in their lives: changes in their family. Whether divorce, separation, custody, parenting time, visitation, or other family changes, disputes, or crises, you want to help them reach the best outcome that is consistent with their values.

We need you to be proficient in Colorado family Law practice and procedure. At the same time, we want you to not be "set in your ways," or wedded to “the way things have always been done.” You should be an optimist, and a realist, at the same time.

We need you to be creative and able to think outside the box, while also adhering to the established parameters of law and court procedure.

Of course, you must have the skills necessary to advocate for clients before a mediator or a court, and not be afraid to do so. You also know that litigation is not always the path to the best outcome. You are not motivated by the thrill of the other side losing but are dedicated to achieving an optimal outcome for clients consistent with their values – which you, along with our team, may help them discover.

You understand that this process is about more than writing legal documents. You are eager to marshall the resources of our team that can go beyond the “bare minimum” and provides all the help the clients may need. You are excited about being part of a firm that will be there for them, even outside the strictly legal aspects of these major life changes --whether it be help finding a new home, a car, the right insurance, a babysitter, or an IT guy...

You are committed, above all, and in everything we do, to an excellent experience for clients.

If you're still reading this, and believe this might be a role for you, let me tell you about us. New Leaf Family has started a family law practice serving the greater Denver area. We are combining our founders' talents of running successful law firms, with the experience of having built law firms, including a very successful family law practice, and wanting to do it again (and again.)

This firm will serve as a model for growth in Colorado, and likely beyond. We are able to serve clients more fully, and more efficiently, bringing family law services to people who have been scared away by the high, and unpredictable costs of family law firms led by trial lawyers who can be more interested in winning, than in achieving a great outcome for their clients.

When you apply, please briefly let me know why this role, in particular, gets you excited... This is key. Don't skip it! (you will be prompted separately to answer this question)

We look forward to hearing from you!

You will be a captain on our multi-faceted team. The members of our team include paralegals, assistants, coaches, counselors, and more, all focused on empowering clients to navigate change and conflict in their family lives. You will help clients to develop and articulate a vision of the future they are working to achieve and prepare a strategy that helps them to achieve it. We believe that we should not impose what we see as "the solution" onto clients' lives. How will you do this?

  • You will understand the needs of clients, beyond what they need in court or litigation. We are here to help them navigate one of the most challenging times of their lives. We empower clients to make the best decisions for themselves and their families
  • You will stand up for clients in forums that are unfamiliar to them. You will be ready, willing and able to advocate for clients in places where our expertise can shine, including mediation, litigation, trial, etc.
  • You will align with clients. You will serve clients effectively, and efficiently so that they can reach their solutions as quickly, and affordably as possible.
  • You will serve the whole client. You will put clients in touch with additional resources, both inside and outside New Leaf. These could be closely affiliated, like parenting coordinators, divorce coaches, and financial planners, to other resources that clients may need, like real estate brokers, car dealers, personal trainers or makeover artists.
  • You will empower our clients to build their futures. You will help clients make, and implement, a plan for after their divorce or other family change.
  • You will bring more people into New Leaf Family. You will be a positive ambassador for the work of the firm, and attract clients, and colleagues alike
  • You will be a leader in the legal community
  • You will be a leader among our team, and help us grow and attract more lawyers like you!
  • You will be a strong member of a distributed team. We don't all meet in person too often, so being able to be a strong team member in a remote work setting is crucial.
  • You will take care of yourself so that you can take care of clients.

  • First and foremost, you have a passion for empowering clients through their current family conflict, toward a future that they may not clearly see yet.
  • Next, you are excited about the prospect of doing this … differently! You are skilled in the craft of family law, but not set in the deeply worn grooves of the “system” that might not be serving clients best.

For this particular role, you should also meet these criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Colorado Family Law;
  • You love finding creative solutions ... sometimes in the law ... often beyond it;
  • You have strong empathy with clients, with the ability to hear their hopes, dreams, and desires as well as deliver difficult truths to them;
  • You have experience, and success working collaboratively with a team .... even when remote;
  • You are able to work independently, yet also comfortable with reaching out for assistance, and knowing when to do so;
  • You are proficient and self-sufficient with technology that facilitates working with a distributed team, and servicing clients in ways most convenient to them;
  • You have good writing skills;
  • You are committed to delivering excellent client service;
  • And ... of course, you are a member of the Colorado Bar ... in Good Standing

$75,000 - $90,000 yearly + incentives
About New Leaf Family

New Leaf Family is a law firm, yes. But we do things... differently.

We are focused on empowering our clients to resolve their family conflicts. We exist to help them understand the future they want to build, use our skills/experience to help them plan their path, and help them implement it.

We understand that our clients don't come to us with legal problems. They are experiencing personal conflict. Their problems likely have an intersection with the law, which is why we’re the right team to help them. But that isn’t the totality of their problem, so it's not the end of how we serve our clients.

We are fully equipped and ready to engage in whatever level of litigation is needed to protect those values, hopes, and desires!

Our work doesn't begin and end with the legal process. It begins before that and continues long past. Our mission is to help solve problems, sometimes including other professionals in our work.
