Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist our clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
  • Supervise administrative staff, paralegals, and law clerks
  • Provide legal counsel to clients by analyzing their needs and determining a proper course of action
  • Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
  • Communicate with senior partners and paralegals to effectively move through the civil litigation process
  • Attend court proceedings as needed to represent clients
  • Preside over paralegals, administrative assistants in connection with keeping track of time records, reviewing client billing, setting up client meetings, and completing client projects
  • Preferably you will have at least two years of experience practicing family law in South Carolina
  • Experience managing a large caseload, and also experience with managing and overseeing paralegals and other support staff
  • Experience with billing and keeping track of billable time on cases

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of accredited law school with Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree
  • Must be a member of your local bar association - active member preferred
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience working in family law
  • Advanced computer skills working with legal research programs (Westlaw and Lexis) required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is necessary
  • Must be able to handle heavy caseload with little supervision
  • Decision-making, public speaking, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and communication skills are a must
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, especially in highly stressful and emotional situations
  • You must be a positive person and a team player. If you see the glass as being half full, you are definitely the type of person we are looking for. Our law firm is a “family” and we work well with people with positive attitudes, go-getters, and are team players
  • You also need to be detail-oriented and willing to go the extra mile to get the job done right the first time. In our law practice, getting it done right the first time for clients is very important and we need our entire team to work with this important goal in mind
  • You must be a team player. You will be working with other attorneys and staff and both you and our other staff members are accountable to each other. If you can’t get along with one another and work together to get the job done right the first time, this is not the job for you
