Law Office of Sam Byrd

Our growing law firm is looking to hire a family attorney who is fiercely passionate about representing consumers facing one of the most challenging times in their lives. We help divorced and separated parents create a more peaceful future by managing co-parenting conflict while maximizing access to their children and money.

Candidates should be adept at preparing necessary legal documents in connection with prenuptial agreements, initiating and finalizing divorces, alimony, child support/child custody, and real estate.

We are looking for an experienced attorney who can hit the ground running to build relationships of trust with our customers and provide them with practical legal and life advice.

Experience in handling legal issues such as child abuse, child custody, and domestic violence is also a must. Competitive compensation and flex schedule. Ability to leave behind all of the administrative responsibility to give you more freedom to focus on customer service, trial skills, and professional development.

Performance and incentive-based bonuses are available. If you have a proven record of success both in and out of court, apply now!

If this exciting opportunity appeals to you, we look forward to reviewing your resume. Please follow these instructions. APPLICATIONS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

Prepare a cover letter in with no more than two paragraphs and a single closing sentence. In the first paragraph explain what you believe are the 3 most important qualities that must be possessed by an attorney working with people experiencing divorce or child custody issues. In the second paragraph tell me why you applied to this particular ad. As a closing sentence please write, “I have read the instructions contained in the job posting and have followed the instructions.”

In addition to your cover letter, please list 5 professional references who are familiar with your quality of work (supervisor, co-counsel, opposing counsel, judge, etc.).

Responsibilities
  • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action
  • Work closely with paralegals and senior partners to ensure swift action through the civil litigation process
  • Prepare legal documents such as legal pleadings, motions, marital settlement agreements, contracts, judgments, and orders for a high volume of cases
  • Divide marital assets, including real estate, when necessary during divorce proceedings
  • Represent clients in court proceedings as needed
Qualifications
  • Great negotiation and communication skills, particularly in stressful and emotional situations
  • Bachelor’s degree with a legal background and J.D. degree are required
  • Proven record of success in advocating for plaintiffs and defendants

  • We need an attorney who can contribute to developing the strategy of a case and who knows where to find the rules of procedure and case law to back up that case strategy.
  • We need an attorney who knows how to find your way around the courtroom, how to get things done, and how to project confidence and competence when dealing with people on behalf of our customers.
  • Our ideal attorney knows how to read financial statements, understands equitable distribution, and can help put together a child-centered parenting schedule.
  • Our ideal attorney will also have crossover legal experience with the criminal justice system relating to substance use/abuse and domestic violence and the juvenile justice system relating to child welfare and child protective services.
  • Our ideal attorney has experienced and overcome a “family law story” of their own to find peace and happiness.
  • Our ideal attorney is a strong advocate for the customer position in and out of court, but also a strong advocate for interest-based negotiation and cooperation.
  • We are growing, and you will be called upon to wear many hats. We need someone who does not think that the occasional need to scan your own documents is “beneath you."
  • Skills and experience are important and valued, but your personality, character, intelligence, and integrity are also extremely important considerations.
  • Our core belief system is founded on the Golden Rule and the Serenity Prayer; that is, to treat others the way you want to be treated, not the way you think they deserve to be treated” and “to have the serenity to accept the things we cannot change, the courage to change the things we can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”
  • We also strongly believe in personal responsibility, personal development, and becoming the best versions of ourselves that we can be.
  • The right fit will have personal values aligned with our Firm values so that will be integrated into customer advice to help good parents make rational decisions during an irrational time in their lives.
  • The right fit will give advice and undertake strategies intended to reduce or manage conflict, enhance the quality of life of our customer and their children, and avoid a damaging and expensive courtroom battle when possible.
  • If you see a case file as an opportunity to help someone build a new and better life, you’ll like the way we think.
