Turion Space is seeking a software engineer to join our team in Irvine, CA. You will architect and develop computer vision and AI/ML software for autonomous spacecraft perception, optimized ground-to-space operations, as well as a variety of other work related to simulation and data filtering. Additionally, you will provide key support for product demonstrations, business development, and outreach activities. Your ability to collaborate in the drafting of proposals, journal and/or conference articles, and attending related events will be hugely beneficial to your new role. 

Compensation is $90,000 - $120,000 with 0.1-0.7% equity

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement and test highly accurate computer vision algorithms for deployment on embedded systems 
  • Design, implement, and test image enhancement and filtering algorithms 
  • Assist in perception hardware design and component-level trade studies 
  • Assist in design and implementation of multi-objective optimization algorithms  
  • Assist in development of single- and multi-agent simulations in Python and C/C++ 
  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional teammates for our rapidly growing team 

Qualifications


  • Advanced degree (MS or Ph.D.), or BS + 2 years experience, in an engineering discipline with a focus on computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or a related field 
  • Good analytical skills and a solid foundation in mathematics 
  • Strong development experience in C/C++ and Python 
  • Experience utilizing ML/AI frameworks such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, PaddlePaddle, MXNet, DGL, etc. 
  • Experience applying advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques for image processing in a production environment 
  • Software testing and verification experience (unit testing and performance verification) 
  • Demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test software from scratch 
  • Able to learn quickly and collaborate with multiple disciplines encompassed within the spacecraft design and testing umbrella 
  • Capable of identifying and solving complex problems with little to no supervision or direction 
  • Be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed 
  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State 

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Experience working with robotic systems 
  • Experience GPU software development (CUDA, OpenCL, OpenACC, 
  • Experience FPGA software development 
  • Experience with AI/ML development surrounding low-volume datasets 
  • Experience implementing sensor fusion algorithms 
  • Working knowledge of simultaneous localization and mapping techniques 
  • Experience working with advanced optics systems 
  • Astrodynamics simulation experience 
  • Working knowledge of satellite subsystems and components 

Compensation
