Market 8 is hiring a full-time content writer with solid experience in business-to-business (B2B) communications. 

We are a small services and consulting firm that provide marketing strategy and execution. We work mainly with firms that sell high-value products or services to other businesses. We provide demand-generation services that help our clients achieve consistent revenue growth.  

Market 8 seeks clients whose products or services have the potential to improve the world in substantial ways. 

We are not interested in generating marketing-qualified leads (MQLs). Rather, we help our clients build a brand, awareness, and revenue pipeline by educating their target audiences about the value our clients deliver.  

Most of our clients sell high-ticket products that involve advanced technologies. Some of our clients sell highly innovative products or services for which current demand is low because of low market awareness and understanding. Their technologies are in fields as diverse as artificial intelligence and climate tech. 

Founders and senior executives at many Market 8 clients come from science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) backgrounds. These executives may have little or no training or practical experience in marketing and sales. 

Consequently, they look to us for leadership and direction in bringing their products or services to market. They generally give our Market 8 team members the freedom to exercise creativity and professional judgment.

Overview of the work
The content writer for this role will be expected to conduct in-depth research on a range of topics. The research will likely involve interviews with subject-matter experts. 

The content writer will digest the research and then explain its practical business implications clearly and simply. The goal is to write interestingly, in a style non-experts can easily understand.

This is not a job for writers of fluffy, insubstantial SEO content. 

The writer will create solid, original content in formats that include long-form blog or web articles, web pages, customer case studies, social media posts, video scripts, and a variety of PDF documents. 

The content marketer should be able to contribute to the development of strategies that will increase reader engagement.

In this role, you will work with both internal team members and clients.

  • On the client-side, you will work with founders, CEOs, chief revenue officers, and product owners at early growth-stage companies that seek to ramp their revenue. 
  • Internally, you’ll work with Market 8 staff who work in the roles of sales, business development, growth consulting, and marketing.

Responsibilities

In this job, the content writer will…

  • Conduct surveys and interviews to understand the needs, interests, and behaviors of target audiences. 
  • Define a written content strategy to help our clients achieve their goals and those of their target audiences.
  • Conduct in-depth research on industry-related topics. 
  • Develop substantial, original content written first for humans, and secondarily for search engines. 
  • Build relationships with subject-matter experts. 
  • Identify clients’ needs. Recommend new content to address gaps in the client's current content.
  • Develop content for blogs, articles, webinars, courses, case studies, social media interactions, and websites.
  • Help Market 8’s marketing team develop content for paid campaigns, mainly in social media. 
  • Proofread content and manage quality-control checklists to minimize errors and inconsistencies.
  • Edit, update, and polish current content assets to improve their usefulness, relevance, and readability.
  • Write compelling headlines, article titles, and body copy to capture the attention of target audiences.
  • Curate, research, design, and write articles for blogs and other distribution channels.
  • Coordinate with marketers, editors, and designers to illustrate articles.

Freedom and independence

  • You will work under contract. You can do your work virtually anywhere in the world, provided you have a reliable internet connection. 
  • You must be willing to participate in Zoom calls and interviews with subject-matter experts and Market 8 team members a few times a week during business hours in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone (EST). 

Qualifications

Is this you?

To succeed in this role, you should be well organized and detail-oriented. 

You must be able to write effective, interesting stories in a variety of structures. You should be able to write both inverted pyramid and narrative story structures. You should know how to use several alternative structures for article ledes. 

We prefer to hire a native speaker of English. But we’re open to working with anyone who can write concise, clear copy that doesn’t need multiple rounds of editing. 

Education in journalism or equivalent work experience is a strong plus.

  • Can work in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism, media, or a related field. 
  • Have 5+ years of experience as a content writer.
  • Have a portfolio of published articles on B2B topics, preferably involving technology.

  • Repurposing interviews, videos, or podcasts into articles.
  • Conducting research by using multiple sources.
  • Understand the differences between writing for conventional publications and writing for the web.
  • Have a working knowledge of popular content management systems.
  • Are proficient in all Google office applications (Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.).
  • Are familiar with the primary social media channels and their audiences. You understand how to achieve engagement through social media.
  • Understand marketing concepts and principles.
  • Can meet deadlines and produce work of consistent quality.
