The People Support Manager will manage the implementation, administration, and compliance of benefit plans that support over 185 hotels and three corporate offices operating in over 30 different states.

The mission of this role is to ensure competitiveness and compliance across all offerings including health insurance, Paid Time Off, 401(k), spending accounts, and other programs. This individual will report to the Director of Total Rewards and work as a part of a high-function People Support (HR) team.

  • Administer, direct, and review employee benefit programs, including the integration of benefit programs in the event of a hotel acquisition.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to modify benefits policies and programs to ensure that programs are current, competitive, and in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Ensure services are in compliance with professional standards, and state and federal regulatory requirements related to recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Stay abreast of benefit-related federal, state, and city legislative reform, including but not limited to ERISA and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), and make changes to meet requirements.
  • Ensure benefit Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) documentation and materials are kept up to date.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with benefit providers, ensuring a high level of service and proper administration of plans.
  • Respond to and resolve elevated benefit issues or concerns of associates via relationships with providers to obtain a quick and appropriate resolution or response.
  • Review and process claim invoices, monitor the expenses, investigate changes and discrepancies, and present to senior management for final approval of payment.
  • Process vendor invoices timely to ensure timely payments.
  • Coordinate with the broker of record to complete the filing of Form 5500 regarding the medical plan.
  • Administer the associate health engagement and wellness program; oversee integrated approach with vendors in design and delivery.
  • Annually and on an as-needed basis analyze benefit programs for competitiveness and cost-effectiveness.
  • Participate in area and industry benefit surveys.
  • Manage the Open Enrollment Process, coding funding rates, and associate premiums into the system, setting up who is or is not eligible, conduct conference calls to provide overviews of the benefit options.
  • Make recommendations for the benefit and program changes, modeling cost impact with revised costs and projected participation in order to minimize expense increases to ownership while simultaneously offering a competitive benefits package to associates.
  • Utilize the HRIS system to its maximum capacity in terms of communicating and administering benefit programs electronically.
  • Develop and prepare benefit materials, booklets, and other media for communicating existing plans and new plans or changes to associates.
  • Manage the maintenance and accuracy of associate enrollment data to the various benefit vendors.
  • Update census data monthly and keep an archived history of the census data for future analyses or audits.
  • Administer the 401(k) Program and coordinate with auditors on the annual 5500 filings.
  • Coordinate with vendor on Non-Discrimination mid-year and year-end testing.
  • Follow sustainability guidelines and practices related to HHM’s EarthView program.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in human resources, business, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of prior benefits experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to organize, analyze, and summarize data.

Work Environment and Context

  • Required to sit for extended periods, lift up to 10 pounds, bend, reach, and use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard.
  • Occasional travel to other corporate offices and managed properties required.
  • Extended work hours may be required during times of peak volume.
