Our law firm has a full-time associate attorney position available now, and we’re looking for the right professional to join our team. You will have the opportunity to learn from senior associates and litigation associates on legal issues and will provide legal counsel to existing clients. You’ll also be responsible for performing legal research, drafting documents, and keeping client files up to date. • Perform legal research, prepare for and attend hearings or other legal proceedings, and give general counsel under the supervision of senior associate attorneys
• Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings
• Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals and support staff
• Review client issues on legal matters, analyze available options, and diligently work to determine the best course of action
• Communicate with senior associates, paralegals, and clients to ensure cases are handled efficiently

Business Litigation

• Participates in hearings and appears in administrative hearings, and state and federal courts to try cases and argue motions and appeals;
• Researches and prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs;
• Participates in settlement negotiations;
• Prepares pleadings and discovery responses.
• Provides legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies; drafts memoranda of advice.
• Conducts research on pertinent legal issues; keeps abreast of recent legal developments.
• Drafts formal opinions in response to legal questions.
• Responds to inquiries from citizens, legislators, and judges.
• Attends client, board, departmental, and division meetings as required.

Government Affairs

• Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs. 
• Research and prepare legal opinions for City Council, City Manager, boards, commissions, and other city staff. Attend City Council meetings.
• Maintain current awareness of legislation and issues involving municipal operations. 
• Serve as the liaison for the City with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues. 
• Serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence. 
• Provide responsible assistance to the City Council.
• Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public law. 
• Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Perform related duties as required.

• Effective communication skills and problem-solving skills are necessary to work with all levels of staff and clients
• Completion of a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
• Active membership with the American Bar Association (ABA)
• Prepared to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base
• Applicants must have successfully passed the state bar exam

• Minimum 5+ years of Litigation experience
