Our law firm has a full-time associate attorney position available now, and we’re looking for the right professional to join our team. Responsibilities
- Perform legal research, prepare for and attend hearings or other legal proceedings, and give general counsel under the supervision of senior associate attorneys
- Prepare correspondence and legal documents such as contracts, pleadings, briefs, affidavits, motions, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings
- Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals and support staff
- Review client issues on legal matters, analyze available options, and diligently work to determine the best course of action
- Communicate with senior associates, paralegals, and clients to ensure cases are handled efficiently
Business Litigation
- Participates in hearings and appears in administrative hearings, and state and federal courts to try cases and argue motions and appeals;
- Researches and prepares pleadings, motions, and briefs;
- Participates in settlement negotiations;
- Prepares pleadings and discovery responses.
- Provides legal advice and/or representation to clients/agencies; drafts memoranda of advice.
- Conducts research on pertinent legal issues; keeps abreast of recent legal developments.
- Drafts formal opinions in response to legal questions.
- Responds to inquiries from citizens, legislators, and judges.
- Attends client, board, departmental, and division meetings as required.
Government Affairs
- Manage and participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs.
- Research and prepare legal opinions for City Council, City Manager, boards, commissions, and other city staff. Attend City Council meetings.
- Maintain current awareness of legislation and issues involving municipal operations.
- Serve as the liaison for the City with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.
- Serve as staff on a variety of boards, commissions, and committees; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence.
- Provide responsible assistance to the City Council.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of public law.
- Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Effective communication skills and problem-solving skills are necessary to work with all levels of staff and clients
- Completion of a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school
- Active membership with the American Bar Association (ABA)
- Prepared to learn from senior attorneys to meet our client needs and grow our client base
- Applicants must have successfully passed the state bar exam
- Minimum 5+ years of Litigation experience
Compensation
$80,000 - $110,000 yearly
